Conferences
I love to speak to teachers, librarians, pre-service teachers, and writers. My books cover a wide range of topics, from social reform, activism, the history of medicine, and World War II, making them perfect for maker, STEM, STEAM, STREAM, and CCSS connections. In my presentations I focus on visual literacy and helping students develop critical thinking skills. Recent topics include:
- History Must be Seen: Helping Young Readers Think Like Historians
- Imagine the Possibilities: Picture Books for Older Readers
- Writing IS Revision
- Let’s Celebrate Stories
- Research, Writing, & Thinking
- Making Connections: Using Text Sets and Resource Sets
- Everybody’s Story Matters
